 | Director of Fund Development Frederick, MD Nonprofit seeks exp. individual to significantly increase its capacity to raise private funds, while continuing focus on grants and fundraising appeals. Proven track record of success in solicitation of private, corporate and major gifts.
Job summary:
The Director of Fund Development will drive all public relations efforts, building credibility, awareness and strong recognition. Build the organization's brand throughout our targeted markets, identify, create and negotiate special events, sponsorships, and partnerships. Serves as the key link between external media/press parties and stakeholders, and facilitate information and communication flow. Incumbent will successfully identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors with potential to make outright gifts ranging from $10,000 and up. This staff member will work regularly with the President and Fund Development Committee to coordinate major gifts and gift planning initiatives and proposals.
Requirements:
Education: Bachelors degree required; a graduate degree in business or marketing is a plus. Legal and/or gift planning expertise preferred or related field.
Experience: Five or more years of experience in major and planned gift development work and marketing in nonprofit settings.
Knowledge/Skills: Strong planning, organizational and presentation skills; results-oriented, focused and self-motivated. Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal. Sophisticated interpersonal skills; ability to engage and inspire support from diverse personalities and age groups; tactful, mature, and flexible. Demonstrated success in major and planned gift solicitation and closure, an interest in politics, public policy, journalism, news or economics; expertise in primary facets of planned giving and related legal issues and trends hat impact the closing of planned gifts. Familiarity with planned gift software. Commitment to helping donors achieve their dream gifts through creative and effective philanthropic planning. Strong Internet/online marketing skills. Must be an independent thinker who is able to innovate, produce and execute compelling marketing programs, often on tight deadline through your energy, creativity, relationships.
Specific Duties:
•Embrace and model the best practices of major gift fundraising and gift planning for optimal results.
•Solicit and steward outright and deferred major gifts of $10,000 or more.
•Seek outright gifts of assets and help donors increase their gift capacity via gifts of real property, charitable remainder trusts (CRATs), retained life estates, documented bequests, gift annuities and other gift planning vehicles and methods.
•Effectively engage the President, team members and board member as appropriate.
•Orchestrate the work of selected board members, staff and other volunteers to secure useful gifts for Interfaith Housing Alliance.
•Maintain monthly visit, call, and solicitation reports
•Market gift planning services and opportunities to targeted audience through website, email, snail mail, personal visits and education programs.
•Stay current on tax laws, legal issues and current strategies for securing and managing gifts of complex assets
•Work with donors’ advisors – CPAs, attorneys, money mangers and other allied professionals to secure useful gifts and ensure optimal performance of deferred gift assets.
•Initiate, develop, coordinate, and distribute communications materials, literature, online resources, videos, programs and press releases.
•Create and manage organizational master media archive and directory
•Prepare Annual Report on activities of the Organization
•Develop and promote collaborative relationships with likeminded organizations and co-manage joint projects.
•Increase visibility through innovative, low-cost marketing and communications programs
•Effectively articulate and attractively position Interfaith’s programs to key audiences, including the community, press, sponsors/funders, members, policy makers and others
•Develop and maintain effective methods for communicating with and engaging key stakeholder groups
•Develop and coordinate promotional opportunities for corporate events/ sponsors in collaborations with the President and Chair of Fund Development
•Track communications and marketing outcomes for impact and report results on a ongoing and timely basis.
